The problem with diesel oil is that it's intended for higher temp usage. There's two kinds of ZDDP, one for gas engines, and another for diesel engines. The Delvac/Rotella is for diesel engines.

As mentioned, GM EOS, STP and WalMart Tech Lube have the ZDDP.

Good luck to all.

The Shell site specifically states that Rotella is fine for gas engines. This subject keeps coming up on various flathead and other "old technology" sites.

Also be aware that gas engines run hotter than diesel, not the other way around.

Yes, the supplements are compatible with synthetic oil. I'm a big fan of Mobil 1, too. The potential problem with the ZDDP supplements are that the Phosphorus can coat the internals of catalytic converters. But in our old vehicles, that's not usually a problem.

So, are you guys saying that the same problem exists with synthetics, or the synthetic blends? I run syn because of the better starting at low temps.

FWIU, Nothing to do with the base oil, all SM oils have the reduced wear additives, synthetic or dino.

Hmmm, so what are we saying,
The oil, (be it castrol, penzoil ect) at the local Autozone is not good enough for the general population built before 1997?

Silly question from overseas........but since the US is so good at the "class action" law suite gig......why hasn't someone organised a class action against the EPA for the billions in dollars damage they have done to engines in older cars.

They would argue it is the oil companies problem, but if it is demonstrable that it is a result of EPA directives then it should be a slam dunk

Here in the land of planned obsolesence and conspicuous spending the EPA (nor the gov) expects nor wants anyone to be driving any pre 1977 vehicle without a cat converter. Most consider Hot rodders to be rebel rule breakers and pimples on the butt of the environment wantonly punching holes in the ozone layer and contributors to global warming (must be the exhaust flame throwers!) not respectable responsible citizens. If it wasn't for SEMA we would have been legislated out of existence years ago. We would not garner any sympathy in the courts.
