Thinking moving up.

Thinking about moving up.
Hi guys. I've test driven a 05 F250 larait 4x4 all weekend. i put 275 miles on this truck. I've drive F150s all my life. I like them but i'm kinda feeling like moving up.
The maintenance kida has me bugged out. sure seems to be alot in keeping up with a deisel. My question here is, Does's the maintenace stay a bugger or does it get pretty easy. How long does it take yall do do your maintenance? It's not like i wont have the time i'm just curious as to if the maintenace is as bad as it seems.

The maintenance is more expensive than a gas motor but it isn't a huge deal. If you need/want a Superduty don't let a minor issue like that stop you. If you can afford the truck you can definately afford the extra oil and filters. A dealership oil change is about $90.00 every 5k miles. VS $25.00 every 3k miles for a gas motor. Not a huge issue but it is more money no question. Of course you can save a few bucks if you do it yourself. The Superduty with the deisel is an awesome pickup. I like the truck way better than an F150. My wife would disagree. She likes the car-like feel of the F150. In my opinion it is Superduty. Not even a contest.

It's not that bad. I moved up to my first diesel about a year ago. Oil changes are a snap. I take it slow and I've never timed myself. But I would guess it takes me 45 minutes. I'm sure most can do it quicker than this. This should be done at no more than a 5000 mile interval in my opinion. The fuel filters (2) are a snap to change as well. The filter on the frame rail can be messy, but with a little preparation it's no big deal. These must be changed at 15k miles max. Again, I take it slow, but it takes me less than an hour to get the fuel filters changed out. Also, you should drain the fuel separator on a regular basis. The manual states to do it once a month. This is what I do and it only takes me 15 minutes. Majority of that time is getting the creeper out and finding my allen wrench. Again, piece of cake.
Time's not an issue. The maintenance cost is definitely higher for a diesel. Count on 13.5 - 14 qts per oil change, oil filter ($15-$20), fuel filters ($35-$50 for kit). Shop around and you can get some good deals as prices vary significantly. The most important thing to remember when dealing with diesels is stay on top of your preventative maintenance. Do it when you're supposed to and you'll be fine. Let it go and you'll become best friends with you local diesel mechanic.
