I am going to straight pipe my '97 F-250 and when I asked about it at my local muffler shop he said he can take off the muffler but can't do anything about the cat. I was curious because my truck doesn't have a cat on it and I'm quite positive that the previous owner didnt tamper with it. Is this year supposed to have a cat?

 

yeah it should have a cat. up by the tranny. your muffler man cant but you can!!!!

 

You'll just have to take it off at home, measure it, then tell the muffler shop how long of a pipe you need.. Thats how we did it on the boosted eclipse's and my truck (which sounds awesome btw)...

 

oh ok, so just cut the muffler out then tell them the length. will having no backpressure hurt or gain performance? i know on gassers it will hurt. This is my first diesel though so I am not sure.

 

no back pressure required. the turbo handles that.

 

well i went by the muffler place today, he put it on the lift looked at it and said "Ill do it for $40"
