Question Diesel Engine Hour Meter

What is the use and/or value of this feature on my gauges? Dealer has no clue and other than knowing the hours on it what does it tell you?

Thanks . . .

I have an 06 PSD The only logical reason for the hour meter that I can think of is if your your truck idles excessively it keeps track so you don't miss the oil change interval.

Almost exclusivly for maintenance purposes. If you look in your owners manual you will see recomendations for oil changes stated in miles and hours. Just like PA said, it's handy for vehicles that idle allot.

What gauges do you have that offer an engine hour meter? That'd be nice to have.

Back at my old job (2001) fleet Dept at a Electric Utility, we use to put an Hour meter in every new vehicle we bought. Then GM or Ford made it standard and the other manufacturers followed. As stated above we did internal costing based on Hours.

The '06 King Ranch model has engine hours as a part of the standard instrument displays. Thanks for the info . . .

Some of the trannys have a pto. THis would help keep track of the time used during other ops.
