2001 5.4 f-150 odd happenings HELP
I just purchased this truck from a dealer. It's the nicest lookin truck I have ever owned. It only has 59,000 miles on it. That is why I am bothered by 2 mechanical issues that have shown up. The first almost killed me...really.
1. I took off from an intersection and it just died. No sputter or anything. Like I used a kill switch on it. I coasted through and almost go hit by a semi.. I stopped, put it in park and turned the key off and back on and it started right back up and was fine after that. It has happened about once a week since.
I do not get a check engine light either. Any clues?
2. While at hwy speeds going over dips in the road, it slips out of gear and revs up like it was in neutral. I then let the rpms drop and slowly give it gas and it acts like it goes right back into gear. By this time it is usually around 40 mph. It did this with the cruise on once and it revved up to about 5k before I hit the brake to disengage the cruise control.
I have only had this truck for 1 month and I do have a 6mo 6k warranty on engine and tranny. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks for your time.

Welcome back to the forum Larry
The engine shutting off could be caused by a bad crankshaft position sensor but without scanning the truck's computer you're just guessing. Unless the check engine light is on you probably wont get a place like Autozone to scan it so you'll have to take it to your dealer instead.
Usually the cause of it slipping out of gear at highway speeds is a bad TRS (Transmission Range Sensor). It's on the driver's side of the transmission, where the shift linkage is. It has 1 electrical plug and 2 screws holding it on.

Just letting you know that the mechanic determined that I had a loose connection right at the computer. He said that it was causing both problems. Not reading correctly. Hopefully this helps someone else that may have the same condition.
At least it was nothing major.
Thanks for the responses.
