My truck was not originally equipped with door speakers but has holes for them. What size speaker is a perfect fit?

 

i think in my 79 its like 5 and a half or 5 3/4, but I managed to get 6s to fit w/ some drilling

 

I installed Sony 613's & 615's (on 2 seperate occasions) in my truck.

They are a slim line 6" speaker so the 60 oz magnet doesn't hit the window

There are others out there that are way better.

Ford Premium Speakers, would be your best bet for an exact fit, no drilling.

I think E9AF-18808-AA, will fit no problem, but you may have to put a new plug on your existing speaker harnesses if applicable... They will fit 1980 to 1996 F-series and I seem to recall the size is the same. My memory may cheat.


There are still some good ones floating around the wreckers. Get a good u-pull-it, that will let you exchange them if they are blown, and you are set.


Then of course some good stereo shops will have what you need as well. But there may be some modification needed for proper fit etc...

no i just need to know the size cuz 5-1/4" is too small by quite a bit and im looking to buy good aftermarket 3 way speakers for my doors and also my custom 6x9 box and some subs

 

You did say exact fit.

You are not going to find that aftermarket. Your going to have to modify something...

A good stereo shop will fix you up however. They have adapter kits and may have a reasonable fit. Holes will need to be drilled to mount them as example.

The audio forum will be of more help with this question however, IMO.

 

6" door speakers. I put 6 1/2" alpine component in mine, but had to do a little cutting, but my previous Alpine blue cone 6" fit perfectly, they were 3 way. I had enough room for 10" subs in truck boxes and room to mount my amp withough the tank behind my seat, but 2 tanks are way better than one, so the subs had to go, my custom center console will do the job once its done, I plan on putting 2 12" in the console and 2 6x9 in the front of the console.

 

oh yea my bad I had put 6.5s in too I forgot but 6's should fit almost perfectly. Mines 79 so I don't have a tank behind the seat so I had 2 10"RFs in truck boxes behind the seats and then in between em, on the rear cab wall, I mounted a peice of wood to mount a cheap 1400 watt amp. It sounded really good when i had it all together. I had to have my seat all the way forward to fit the subs but theres plenty of room. i'm 6'5" and even with the seat all the way forward I never got uncomfortable at all. But this was all in a 79 so it may be different (and anyone who is thinkin about settin up the subs and stuff this way I had an aftermarket bucket/bench seat so it may not work as well with a stock bench)

 

i also have no tank behind the seat and i like that idea of 6.5s and im also doing a custom center console for my 6x9s and then when i get a bed on my truck im doing a custom box in it passing through into the cab

 

I just installed 6" Kenwoods into my doors, no mods needed. Also 2 6x9's behind the seats in a unit I built that also has storage and will hold an amp in the future. Stock bench still went all the way back before I put in buckets.

 

I just put some 6 1/2's in my doors. I had to drill new holes to mount them, but they fit fine. I also installed 2 amps under the seat. one 300Wx2 for my 2 10" MTX subs and 1 75Wx4 for my 4 6x9's. I built new boxes myself for everything. It sounds great.

 

I have Polk 6.75" components in mine, very minor trimming to fit (pics in my gallery) but if you dont want to trim a 6 or possibly a 6.5" speaker will fit. You can check with Crutcfield's website and they will tell you exactly what will and will not fit but those are going to be exact bolt ins. With very minor trimming you can put a much better speaker in the door.

 

yah i dont mind trimming anything at all...i have drilled 7 holes in my steel dash so far and plan for 13 more...they hold 5mm green LEDs...i think ill get some 6.5 kicker components or something like that...i will probably end up with 15" subs in the bed whenever i "finish" my truck entirely..but i will stick with gettin 12s to fit behind my bench until i can afford buckets

 

I do consider drilling anything a modification. Even if it's only one screw hole.

I would recommend that you get some of that sound deadener and do the inside of your doors at the same time of speaker replacement.

It may have already been done if the truck came with the sound deadning package etc...

I had a friend put in a very high end stereo system in his 1977 F-150. The bass rattled the truck like it was going to vibrate to pieces.

Something to consider... Better to take it apart once, instead of taking it apart several times, etc..

 

right mine has screw holes for speakers or whatever but my truck is pretty much basic and did not have sound deadening that i know of and i was planning on that anyway and on the floor and rear wall of the cab...it already vibrates with my POS box made of scrap plywood i had and 200 watt for $20 walmart speakers...
