Just got mine installed - took me about 30 min - no problems - wrapped the vaccum line in that plastic wire stuff to protect it from the heat of the engine.

Works great! So COLD!!! burr

Planning on ordering the DS Mod. I live in Phoenix and average highs are 110. Just can't seem to cool the truck no matter what setting I use. Before ordering though, I would like to know if all 02's have a factoy set-up that is designed to do the same thing. I have read most of this thread and many have stated that that the 02's have this built in from the start but that they may not seal completely. I have an 02 and my heater core hoses do not have any kind of valve set-up prior to the connection to the firewall. Am I looking in the wrong place or is it possible I do not have this factory install on my 02? If I do have it on my 02 and just haven't located it, would putting the DS mod in in addtion to the factory valve cause any problems? If I do have it and locate it, should I replace the factory set-up with the DS mod?

I live in Yuma, So I know exactly where your coming from. The wife has an '02 Excursion. It has the factor valve but like you, I had read somewhere that it doesn't seal off completely. So after getting some help from some other guys on this forum I went to a local auto parts store and picked up a manual heater shut off valve. Installed it and it did help a bit but I believe the A/C needs a recharge as well. If I where you living in AZ (unless you travel to the high country a lot) I would just put in a manual valve as I did. At least if you go this route and it is only a minor improvement (like mine) you are only out about $12.00 instead of $40.00 for the DS kit.
Let me know if this is what you decide to do and I can see if I can find the part # to send ya...

Good luck,

JB

I replaced my completed A/C system about a month ago. First turned it on, came out of the vent 42 degrees. Installed the DS Mod, comes out about 38 to 40 depending on if I'm running down the road or sitting still.

If I do this mod will it still keep me warm on a brisk morning of say -15?
Also anyone know if it will work on a 2003 expedition?
thanks Keith

This only affects the heater core when in MAX AC. Unless you use the red line, then the reports are mixed. I think the heater is still fine, though either method. However, the Ex's supposedly have them already due to the size of the cab. They just don't seal all the way off. Try turning your temp control all the way to hot with the AC in Max and see if it gets hot. Mine used to, now it's still icy cold (like my Ranger was).

I installed the ranger bypass mod on my F350. When switched to the left side, the bypass is closed,[vent,a/c,max]. When switched to the right the first setting [hi.low] is cold only but all other heat functions work. I read that the defrost wouldn't but mine does. Hooked up to the red vac line. This is an improvement for sure

That's why I used the white line. I like to use my vent while heating the air in the winter. Here in North Texas, you can only use the vent (without heat) for about two weeks per year anyway.

Don't know. I put in the $40 DieselSite kit and ran with it. Maybe there are some cheaper ones at Home Depot or Lowes. But, I like the automatic feature so the manual valve option never crossed my mind.

It is more like a $20 dollar valve (From Napa anyway) Here's a link with the Napa part # so at least you know what to look for. I got mine at another Parts place for $13 they are a common item so almost anyplace can cross reference the Napa # and hook you up...Hope this helps.

Goodluck!

I got one for $2 at a local mom & pop hardware store. looks just like the one pictured in the napa link.

I finally bought the one from diesel site for 2 reasons- 1.) its so much nicer since its automatic 2.) more than a month had passed and I was just looking for something to do on my truck that wasn't that expensive.

here its either hoootttttt or cold, so manual would not be a problem, but if I have to spend $12- $15 on parts, I would just go with nlemrise's parts list and just spend the $20! you know.......
