either the pin or the timing chain. yanker up outta there and have a look. it may not look spun as the remains of the pin will still be in the holes in the gear. Be aware that something made it strip, usually somethin has gone through the oil pump. When i used to install engines once in a while a bristle from a wire wheel would make it to the pump. only ever upset fords though. its a weak link.

It's not a weak link. It's made that way so the engine won't run if the oil pump doesn't work. The pump just has close clearances, as it should.

if it seems to turn over too fast , and based on the mileage i would say its timing chain. If when you get it apart it has nylon gears and they are stripped its goin to require pulling the pan for a a good cleaning. I know it doesnt sound like fun but that stuff could potentially get to the oil pump and stop it. gl

Check the distributor first, if its ok then put a bar and socket ont he front of the crank and look down the hole see if the cam turns and move it back and forth to feel for slack.

A 390 will not "drop in". It will not bolt to the transmission and your accessory brackets etc will not fit.
