Smile Rims and Tires....to buy or not to buy online..

I am going to be buying some rims and tires soon for my 03 SuperCab XLT 4x4.

I have done a lot of surfing on the net and have found several wheels I like and tires to go with them. Some places will mount and balance them, ship them to your door, ready for your truck. Prices seem good, and no state sales tax, so that's good too.

My questions for the forum are as follows:

1. Has anyone ordered online and been pleased or displeased? If so, who did you use?

2. As a general opinion, do you think it would just be better to deal locally and probably pay more? I can see several pros for dealing locally, like if you have a problem, well then you just deal locally, and you support your local businesses, but on the other hand I imagine it would cost me about $200 more to do this, so is worth it?

3. Finally, if you were to order on-line, which company would you choose?

Thanks all..

gw

I ordered my ProComps wheels and ProComp tires online. Ordered them off an Ebay store. I didn't order them through an auction though, I called them directly. There's only 1 place around me that sells ProComp and they were about $500 more for the same items. So I chose the ebay store, SPORTZTrailers. They were extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and very courteous. I'll never buy local again. Seems like everyone local has an attitude when you tell them you need to shop around. So screw 'em.

What are you looking at getting? Big tires or big rims? Try ebay stores, lots of competition.

Thanks for the reply, I am going to get rims and tires. I like the american racing wheel, call burst, 17 inch, chrome, and procomps or bfg's a/t's.

I can't say enough good for the XTerrains by ProComp .. I love mine! However, I've heard a lot of good about BFGs too. I just really love the looks of the XTerrains, but the BFGs are probably a little better in the mud.

I have heard the same thing...most people love their ProComps! Are they relatively quiet? ProComp was running a special, buy 3, get the 4th free. I don't know if it's still on or not though. I viewed your gallery, nice looking truck, and the rims and tires do look great..

My setup which is ProComp wheels series 1069 and the XTerrains 285/75/R16 put me back $1129 total. That's tires on the rims, balanced, lug nuts (including locking nuts), and shipped to my front door.

That's not bad at all.

And Yes, they are quiet. The XTerrains are engineered to reduce road noise with their directional tread pattern. You can still here them coming down the road just like you do a mud tire, just not as loud. On the highway, you can't even hear them.
