wiring gremlin

A few weeks ago my auto dim switch to turn off my headlights stopped working. The lights would just stay on. A few days ago when I turned my headlights off the parking lamps stayed on when I turned the switch all the way off. The only way I can now turn them off after turning them on is to remove the fuse. My local dealer really sucks: the thought of them trying to troubleshoot this makes me nauseous. Thanks. AF

Sounds like a possible GEM module problem.

Generic Electronic Module. It should be behind the fuse box. Look for signs of rust or moisture. A small windshield leak can get water in there and short it out. I haven't ever priced one, so I'm not sure. I would say yes on the dealer item or maybe a local salvage yard, but it may not be any better if it has been exposed to the elements. It controls things like the delay wipers, auto down drivers window, auto on lights and dimmer, interior light delay, windows working for a while or until a door is opened after the key is turned off, etc.

Hows your troubleshooting going? I'm on the USS Abraham Lincoln on deployment and i just got email from my wife say she's having the same problem with my 99. I hope you get some head way with this problem cause it's driving me crazy that i can't be home to troubleshoot the problem. I'm an Aviation Electrician, too!

Good Luck to you!
