Question Proper ignition wiring...

Ifound this schmatic on vanpeltsales.com but it appears to have the distributor firing order 180* from others I've seen. Is this correct?

This comes up every once in awhile. Mine have all been like the diagram. The shop manual shows this same sequence.

That said, several guys have indicated the 180 deg difference. If you use the stock metal vac line to the carb and use the bump on the crank pulley as initial timing for number 1 cylinder, you should get the results shown in the above diagram.

I just put new ignition wires, coil, and cap on my 52 last weekend and mine matches the diagram in your post.

I was not planning to replace the wires, but I had to disconnect #1 and #5 from the cap to put in a 12 Volt coil with internal balast resistor. The wires crumbled away from the connectors in the cap. All nine wires had greenish blue corrosion and fell apart when I gently disconnected them from the cap. At the spark plug end, the wires were like-new. I used silicone dielectric grease on the boots when I installed the new wires to limit the corrosion. I am surprised these wires were still working.

Hmmm. The firing order is correct, but as I said the distributor in the diagram is 180* compared to the one on page 382 of the shop manual.

Steve can you send me your notes again on the spindle conversion?...I know I saved them, but can not for the life of me find them on this damn 'puter.

Thanks,
Bill
