I need some help. I have a 76 F-250 with a 429/C6 the thing Is I cant get the passing gear to hook up,I have tried like 4 or 5 passing gear rods off the 73-79 ford truck and yes 2 were from 460's but still they bind, they are the wrng shape,length.My question is do you have to have it? Is it bad to just shift down manually to 2nd gear to pass as this is what the passing gear does right? Manuals you shift down also, or do I need to keep working on it?

 

C6's don't require a KD rod.

 

Every 73-79 ford truck with a c4/c6 ive seen has a passing gear rod going from the carb down to the transmission.it hooks up using c-clips, my thing is i cant find a single passing gear rod that works, and Ive tried everything.do i have to have it ?

 

I know they all came with a kd rod.

As I said. You don't need one.

It is not mandatory.

 

thanks cause i was getting a headache going thru differnat kd rods and all so i can rule that out now.
