'67 Disc Brake, Swap the whole I-Beam?
I want to put Disc's on the front of my '67 F-100. I read the tech article, and have checked out some catalog part#'s and pictures. The '73-'74 Fords use the same kingpin as the 65-72's so those would be the only ones you could swap the spindle on. I have noticed that 65-79 Fords use the same I-beam bushings, shocks, and swaybars. I think they made the 73-79's wider by just widening the I-beam pivot mounts, therefor the 75-79 Complete I beam would be the same size as the 67's and it would be easier to find than a '73 or '74. Could I just bolt on the complete I-beam/radious rod assembly from a 75-79 truck? Has any body ever attemped this? I think I saw a '66 F-100 in a magazine with '78 front suspension, I just didn't know how they did this.
All answers are greatly apreciated.
Thanks, Matt

matt:
I am doing just what you want to do right now with my 1967 mercury
f100. The power brakes from a 73-79 will bolt right on. No
problem. You can also use your old I-beams and this will save
alot of work. Replace I-beam bushings when you have it down.
The holes for the booster are already in place on the firewall.
In case you are interested you will also find that the power
steering from this same truck yrs. will fit your 67 with afew
minor revisions and if your interested in finding out what they
are you can e-mail me at donbarkey(No Email Addresses In Posts!)
Hope this is of some help --don

Matt all 65-79 I-beams are bolt up exchange. Find a donor with the same family engine and tranny or tranny that you would upgrade to, and harvest the complete I-beams, ps gear, pump pullies, brackets, etc. and put power disc brakes and power steering on your truck. I have a 76 front end under my 66.
Don, I disagree that you will save any work by swapping the spindles. You can find a tight front end, swap the complete setup under your truck and if it was aligned when you pulled it, it will stay that way on your truck. I have seen King pin replacement take hours. I can take a bud and make the complete swap in a couple. I won't challenge the idea that having new king pins is good, the labor saving issue is what I rebutt.
IMHO of course. :-)

'67 Disc Brake, Swap the whole I-Beam?
Thanks for the quick replies guys,
I have a '73 F-250, it has good brakes, but they are daul-piston-caliper and an eight-lug bolt pattern. Will the booster and master-cyl from the F-250 work with the single-piston-caliper F-100 or F-150 five-lug brakes? Will the proportioning valve for the F-250 work with the smaller brakes also? The less parts I have to find the better.
Thanks, Matt

Matt, We suggest swapping like systems. The F250 IMHO isn't compatable with a F100/150, unless you are exchanging the front and rear axles to the F100/150.

'67 Disc Brake, Swap the whole I-Beam?
All 73-79 spindles will work. The spindle hole size is the same. The difference in king ping size has to do with the bushing size. You just buy the correct king-pin kit for the donor spindle year and you're all set. The article is dated, in many cases you'll find swapping the i-beams to be easier. If you plan to put in new king pins (will definitely smooth out the steering) and the old ones seem to be easy to remove it may be less work to swap the spindles. There's an argument for doing it either way. For my truck I'd swap the spindles, for a buddy who I helped with the swap, if I had to do it again I'd swap the i-beams for him (his king pins were severely frozen in place).
