ok hand calculated mileage is 9.33 mostly towing , maybe 100 miles or so with an empty truck, more would be nice but i knew mpg would be poor when i bought the thing, got it cause its a bad *** truck and i can fit a ton of people and a ton of stuff in it.

2. F350 Sc, Long Box
3. 56K
4. Auto (4 spd)
5. 4WD
6. 3.73 gears
7. LT265/75?/R16
8. No cap pulling fifth wheel
9. 5th Wheel, 30' Wildcat, 9K loaded

Average about 7.5 on trip to Yellowstone from Minnesota towing(2000 miles). Have gotten as good as 8.3 on a trip to Iowa at 65 mph with the cruise on of all things. As low as 6.2 pulling in a head wind and up Beartooth pass and 6.5 across South Dakotas with a 25 mph head wind. I have tried both overdirve on and off and I almost tend to say that overdrive off gives me better mpg. Empty, the best I have gotten is 14.3 mpg.

Skattracker2 thanks for the response; I used to think I was not getting as good a mpg as others but I have talked to alot of V10 guys in the past year and our milage seems very normal. I think that the '05 I have has a different trans and the 3V heads than your '02. I have a Torque Shift 5 spd auto, the same as the diesels get and it incorporates a "Tow/Haul" mode that alters the shift points and also it unlocks the torque coverter sooner and holds it there. I still have overdrive in the Haul mode but the RPM's are about 200 higher than without it. It does seem to be about the same for MPG but there is less shifting on grades.
I think the worst mileage I ever got was on a trip back from Florida; we took a Western route through the Carolina's, West VA and Penn to get back to our home in Upstate NY. Boy are there a lot of hills, short and steep as opposed to the long grades in the West. But the V10 never missed a beat never had a better rig.

Towing Mileage has increased each time I have had the rig out. On our most recent trip, I averaged just under 9.0mpg from San Antonio back to Lubbock. When I got up on top of the Caprock, I noticed that the wind had strangely died down to nothing. I reset the meter between Lamesa and Lubbock (last 58mi.), was very careful with my right foot and surprisingly, got over 10.0mpg. Not sure the motor is broken in yet. Hoping to get 9.0 average with the mods I currently have on it. Tow-Haul is on (unless I forget it).

I towed our loaded Toy Hauler approx 6,000 lbs up the Oregon coast to the dunes last week for the first tow trip and got about 8mpg. Lots of long hills and tight turns and was happy with both the power and the brakes. Quite a step up from our Suburban for towing, that's for sure.

9.5 mpg
2006 e350,
80k,
3.73
235/75 r16
pulled full 19' tt and 2 dirt bikes from the mountains of AZ to the mountains of CO and back. don't particularly like the auto downshift function of the 5 spd auto in tow mode. i would rather do it manually than get the downshift "surprises".

Just towed from Niagara Falls NY to OK. to Tex than to Haines City FL. about 3000 miles at 65 MPH got 9.8 mpg . I like the truck better for towing than the 2003 1500 Hemi QC it replaced. A little harder on gas towing and a lot harder when not. It's not as much fun as the Hemi because it just does everthing so easy. It is a better tower

In your post put the following, please.

1. Year

3. Current mileage on the odometer
4. Auto or stick
5. 2WD or 4WD
6. Rear gears
7. Tire size

10. Weight, size and configuration of trailer. Fifth wheel, load-leveler, etc, and how much the trailer weighs approximately.

PLEASE KEEP IT V10 MPG RELATED!

Ok so may be bringing this thread from the dead but be cool to see it going again.

1) 2002
2) Crew Cab F250
3) 126000 miles
4) Automatic
5) 4x4
6) 4.10 gear ratio
7) 285 75 R16
8) no cap truck box in the way and don't think it would look good.
9) Banks power pack exhaust, airaid intake filter, Chipped but don't konw the chip yet.
10) Pulling 16Ft flatbed trailer with 3 1/2 tons of steel on the trailer and 1900lbs in the bed not including the truck box with tools. Trailer ways probably around 1200lbs guessing. Bumper pull and hooked up with electric brakes.

Getting about 12 towing city 14 highway on that load going about 50 most of the way 18 miles was highway 2 or 3 city. Hand calculated too.

Towing-MPG Poll

Great to see an new post on this OLD Thread

My 2000 F-250 SD Super Cab 4x4
V-10 w 3.73 gears
5 Speed Manual Transmission
5-30 Amsoil Synthetic Oil
Amsoil synthetic in Transmission and Differentials
5 Star Tuning for performance and economy...thanks MIKE!!!
Cold Air Intake Mod
High Flow K&N Air Intake System
Engine Pre-Luber
BFG Goodrich Commercial All Season 235x85x16R
Numerous suspension mods.
etc etc.
I haul around almost exclusively my
Eagle Cap 950 Slide in Camper 3023lbs dry weight.
And much of the time I pull the Harley in a small enclosed trailer.
12.5 mpg is the all around average mileage.

Also I try real hard to find Ethanol Free Gasoline and mostly run 89 Octane
I have checked mileage every single fill-up since the truck was brand new and I keep a log as well.
Nonetheless I am considering the FORD 6.7 L Diesel....some time soon maybe!?!?!?!?!
