In keeping with Monsta's MPG polls, I decided to make a towing MPG poll.

This should be for towing mileage results after a few hundred miles.

In your post put the following, please.

I have @5000 miles towing.

Mileage hase fluctuated from 6.5 to 9.5 at 60 mph. As I have hit 20K miles, mileage is averaging 8.5 mpg as long as I am not heading into a strong headwind.

10. 10k lbs consisting of a 25' Travel Trailer & a 17Ft Boat all hooked together but I get the same with a 10k lb tractor trailer setup and again the same with just the camper by itself so my conclusion is anything over 4-5k lbs yeilds 8mpg pretty consistantly!


I think speed & terrain should also be included because as long as its safe the roads out here are wide open and have 70-75mph speed limits and thats the way I drive so my MPG always suffers a bit because of this compared to other people.

9. SuperChip MicroTuner set at tow performance setting. Does not seem to effect milage.
10. 5300 lb. dry weight, 25 foot toy hauler, bumper pull, weight distribution hitch, loaded weight: ~7500 lbs.

I get 8 MPG average on mixed flat and hilly terrain.

I plan on eventually replacing the gears with 4:30s and a y-pipe.

Typical trip from Central Texas 750 foot elevation up through Texas flat land panhandle into New Mexico through Ratone Pass, and then into Colorado north to Denver then west toward Vail over Loveland pass and Vail pass at the 11,000+ elevation and back to Central Texas is 2890 miles and 365 gallons of fuel for a 7.9MPG trip average

I just got back a week ago from a trip from Tacoma to Palmsprings and back. I was towing a 14' Wells Cargo Cycle Hauler.
My cousin and I went to pick up his 1955 Porsche Speedster (1500#) and bring it back to Wenatchee. Hauled a big dresser Yamaha Venture (700#) on the way down so the towed weight of 4,200# was nearly the same for both directions.

We went straight down I-5 (awful road) and then up 395 most of the way to Wenatchee. Had some 5K foot elevations on the way home to climb.
