Instrument swap

I have been trying to check and see if previous threads if you can do this but cant really find a solid answer. I have another instrument cluster from a 97 with a mechanical odometer with a tad more kilometers on it and would like to swap it into my truck. Would there be any problems with the computer if the odometer read a little bit more? Do you know can guy bring it into ford and get them to change the odomter to read what my old one does? Thanks!

Just take pics of both of them together to document the fact that the new one has higher mileage.

i have heard on the newer trucks, if you change the instrument cluster, the computer will recognize the "tampering" and will not let the ignition key work. you may have to have FORD reprogram the key after changing the cluster. dont know if this is true on the 97-98 versions or not. i believe it is for the newer electronic- digital odometers.

Are we saying that we can change the cluster and computer will not know the difference? What if the digital display (actual mileage vs replacement mileage) is different, will the old mileage come up or the mileage on the replacement cluster, mine has a cloudy look to it?

The cluster stores the mileage.
