Can anyone tell me what the difference is between a 96 and a 97 4.0L OHV starter? Most places list different part numbers for 97 and newer 4.0L OHV starters. They both should be the same whether it's a Ranger, Explorer Aerostar, etc. They both are the newer PMGR types as well. I'm wondering why they aren't interchangeable. Is this because of the change in the 97 and newer blocks?
