Got Gap?

A quick perusal of the archives didn't yield a firm answer, sO I'll ask here:

What gap should I use for my new ignition setup? I have a bone stock 1972 California 360, in a F100, BUT I am adding the Pertronix II and Flamethrower II coil.

should I use a .055 gap? Will I suffer missfire due to my stock cap and 7 mm wires (they look new, I just got the truck).

Thanks!

Dan

ps What do I ask for at the parts counter to do the distributor cap upgrade? I would rather buy a new part than make a trip to the boneyard for the adapter dealie that allows the use of a larger cap and wires.

A year, make and part name would help.

Thanks!

Got Gap?

Don't be suprised if you have to buy a special distributor.

Got Gap?

Just ask for the cap adapter for
a '79 302, but you'll need new wires
to match the cap.
I'd start with .045 and see how
it runs...

Got Gap?

Canzus,

Thanks for the info. That'll help a lot.

Dennis, Why do you think I'll need a new distributor? Pertronix II is supposed to fit just like Pertronix I, from what I have read.

Do you know something about this that I don't (entirely possible, BTW).

Please advise.

Thanks!

Got Gap?

I have a couple of friends that went HNRG igintion with stock motrocraft cap & rotor and the contacts kept getting melted to the point where there was nothing left in them.

I'm just passing on others experience.

They ended up getting the whole distributor to alleviate their problem.

Got Gap?

Dennis,

So what did they do? Don't all distributors use a plastic cap? I'm confused.
Did the problem dissapear when they upgraded to a larger cap?
