Gas tank questions for my 73 F250 Ranger Camper Special
Can someone please confirm some info about the gas tanks for my truck and their capacities?
The side mount tanks (that I've never used by the way) are 19 gallons each? Right?
I have a rear reserve tank that I believe is 19 gallons as well? Am I correct in my thoughts here?
I've only had the truck for a week and just trying to figure some things out about it. It has a toggle type switch below the drivers seat, which I believe is for the gas tanks, only accessible when the drivers door is open. Also I haven't quite figured out if the gas gauge is correctly registering or not. When I picked it up last weekend I put gas in the rear reserve tank. Before fill up it the fuel gauge said 1/4 of a tank, after I put 15 gallons in it, it registered at 3/4 full. Not knowing capacities I'm not sure what to think about fuel gauge accuracy. What do you guys think?

im not sure the capacity of the tanks, but if you fill the tank from empty, you will know its capacity for sure.that will tell you if the guage is working too.the guage should switch when you turn the floor switch .so if you are empty on the front tank, the guage should read empty. then if you turn the switch to the rear tank, and it is for example full, the guage should read full.

I have had several older Ford pickups, most were pre-1980. One, a 1972 F250 Camper Special had the switch under the seat for the tanks themselves. There was another toggle switch around the gage cluster that actually switched the sending units. I also had a 65 F250 Camper Special and it worked the same way: switch under the seat actually converted the fuel; toggle around the dash converted the sender unit readings.
