I am a ford tech and just got some training info on the 6.4 .The repair costs for these new trucks after thay are off warranty is going to be crazy one of the first classes we will learn to remove the cab off the frame because almost all sevice will require the cab to be taken off .It will also have a totaly new pcm setup to make it allmost impossable to chip

WOW...Welcome to the 6.4 Forum at FTE bear1

Great info. It will be interesting to see if there will be any warranty extensions with this new strategy.

At first blush, I would have to say that the seemingly increased up front cost and post warranty cost may keep many casual diesel buyers out of the market.

But then again, maybe the introduction of the 6.4 will enhance the resale value of my very good 6.0...

Thanks again for the info.

Any word on the engine being linked to the navigation/radio display? Supposedly the display will show engine info and check engine codes.

Any word on a 6 spd automatic?

havent heard to much else yet I do know thay will hit the lots in jan 07 as 08s the reason for the delays was for the crash testing of the new front end and easyer to remove cab thats why the front end was redone thay had tryed a flip
nose but it didnt do well in crash testing . Also all the coolers are going to be atached to eachother so thay can be installed and removed as a unit and it will have a electronicly controled high psi fuel sys no more high psi oil sys fireing the injecters

Great. ANOTHER Ford screw up. Hey lets design a vehicle without thinking about how it will need to be fixed....

But they did. Did you not read all his posts? He said they made the cab easier to remove, hence additional crash testing. Get your head out of your backside and quit being so freaking negative!

He is right as how much will it cost to remove the cab after the warranty is up compared with flipping up the hood. It will be very expensive to have something done when Ford isn't paying for it. The motor will run for thousands of miles but the all the small but very important parts like water pumps, alternators, PS, etc will get expensive just to get to them to remove them. This sounds like the old 75 Chevy Monza with a 305 that you had to jack the engine up on one side to get the plugs out.

cab easy to remove? when has a cab ever been easy to remove? certainly not easier than just popping the hood.

Obviously its not going to be as easy as just popping the hood, but what he's saying is that Ford designed it so that the cab is easiER to remove than in previous years. Sucks that they couldn't get a flip hood to do good on crash testing, that would have made things really easy.
