Post Buying Advice for a 67 F100

I have a question about buying a classic ford.

I have found a 1967 F100 Ranger Custom Cab that the body (especially
the bed) is in good shape. There is some rust in places, but no
rustthrough. There is however a badly dented spot on the corner of
the back of the cab on the passengers side (This is rusted through).
It looks like the previous owner has run over a stump. Its rusted
here bad and is gonna require some welding of new sheet metal.
Someone has put caulk (and lots of it) around the triangle
windows .. all this will need scraping off and redoing with molding.

The interior is in decent shape, the seat is bad off however.

The engine .. i couldnt find a spot that it wasnt leaking oil. The
whole undercarriage is soaked in oil. This to me looks all the world
like a complete rebuild. It has the airconditioning compressor, but
the belt is removed which leads me to believe it doesnt work.

Speaking of undercarriage, the frame itself is in really good shape.
All the metal is clean and no signs of damage or rust.

So this is my question, how much should I buy this truck for. I'm
thinking $400-500, and I think this fella is thinking $1500.

If he is asking 1500, forget it. I bought a completely orginal 67, that was in awesome shape, No dents and the only rust was in the lower portion of the front fenders. The interior was in great shape too, the gauges still had the bright orange pointers. The engine and tranny on the other hand put more oil on the frame than kept in the pan. I paid $210.00 for it at an auction sale. It all depends on where you are and how badly you want somthing.

I'd say your estimate is about right - $300-$500. Why not look around for awhile. If you can manage $1,500-$3000 you can find really good old Ford trucks.

Well, I talked to him. He wants 1200 and thinks im out of my mind. When asked about the engine needing to be rebuilt he said "well, thats a personal opinion" and then he volunteered that the transmission slips into reverse sometimes (read: a lot) and you just have to sit there and it will eventuall come out of gear (read: it takes 5 minutes of shifting to get it to go into drive). Anyhow, this sounds more like a $300 truck to me. Ill keep hunting

The truck is worth a world more than $300 as parts alone...just check what guys are getting on ebay for truck parts they are selling individually. If in perfect condition, the dash is worth about $150; the grille and headlight doors $200 (minimum if alum.); bed $300-400; radiator support $100; mirrors $50+, etc.

Again depending on condition of the key, hard to find components, the truck sounds like it is worth a minimum of $800 to $1,000. Ultimately, you have to make the call. What are you looking for? Something to restore? Something to make some money on? Something for daily transportation?

Yeah but Jim, a guy shouldn't have to pay $1200.00 for a truck just for the privilage of busting his knuckles to tear ir apart and hope to have it all sold in 6 months and only collect $800-1000.00 for the parts. I know I went to school in the country but it was this country.

Where are you located? I am selling my 67' and it might be more like what you want. I am in southwest Missouri, if you are anywhere close and might be interested email me at chad_medley_2003@mail.com. I need to get $2000. Pictures of it are in my gallery.
