How much fuel in the filler tube?
Out of curiousity, does anyone have a good idea how much fuel you have in the tank when the gas station pump shuts off? I have a 2004 PSD with a 29 gal tank... is that the most you can get in it... or how about if you fill the truck up to the top of the filler cap... ?
I guess to make my question simple is how much more can you possibly force into a truck with a 29 gal tank using filler tube ???
Thanks.

Harpooning would be a great benefit for the '04. If I had the time and / or inclination I would have done it some time ago.
The family hates to be with me when I fuel up. The wife usually breaks out a book or magazine and 14 year old takes a good nap.
I have a 38 gal tank not counting the tube.

I just filled up my 04 a few minutes ago, I have a 28 gallon tank (no harpoon)and the low fuel light had just come on. Fuel pump auto shut off at 24.6xx, slowly filled it up and it took a total of 30.4xx. Looks to be it took just under 5gal after auto shut off.

Thanks for the info: Reason I asked is...I just filled up at a pump that was EXTREMELY SLOW! So slow that the diesel began to pour out of the filler opening... this was the first time its been FULL FULL!
I was trying to keep my mileage in check since I have been getting improved mileage, but this tank will probally be off due to the amount of fuel I dumped in....I won't play at that pump anymore...unless they fix it.
Cheers!

Does harpooning take away the foaming too on the 2004's ? Or did Ford correct something in the tank to correct this? I head the 2003 and earlier build dates the tank results in alot of foaming of the diesel --- bad for the injectors?
So, harpooning a 2004 and newer tank will benefit the fuel going to the motor??? Or is it just to allow more fuel into the tank.
ThanX !

Harpoon the tank will allow for faster fill-ups at the pump. It does nothing for the motor.
Diesel fuel has a tendiency to foam during fill-ups, this vent line is a carry over from gas tanks. The pickup units between gas and diesel fuels are different but the tank is the same. The foam climbs up the vent and causes the pump to kick off. On my old V10 I could add 1+ gal (max) after the click off, but on the diesels I add 3gal (min)after it kicks off.
