Great thread guys....I just bought my 03 F250 with the 6.0 and am mulling the synthetic question over. A buddy of mine (ex-mechanic for Delta) uses the Amsoil in his VW and swears by it. 15K change interval with filters at 7500. My next service is due in 3K miles so I'm trying to read everything any one puts out to help make the decision.

I'm an analyst and my gut is telling me if the 15K is valid then it's worth it in time saved.

I would not consider going over 7,500 miles with any oil in the 6.0 Powerstroke.

Amsoil justifies the inflated price of their products by extended OCI! This inflated price is due to the pyramid (MLM) marketing structure. Amsoil also
just has 1 diesel oil that is API certified, and that's PCO, a 15w40 synthetic blend.

IMO new filter with syn. @ 7500 then fuel filters every other change is right on.

no fuel adds here in sunny CA.

any more than that your asking for trouble

I go a solid 10000 miles on my Schaffers 9000, OA shows minimum oil shearing after 10K..Use the good filters, not the China ones. Blackstone resubmit after 12000, I stopped at 10000, that is an easy one to remember by the odometer.

OA tells everything about an engine, and would it be a good idea to know some of these things? Yes-IMO. It gives you a snapshot of the engine condition.

You can use OA for prevenitive maint. or predictive maint. You can actually schedule maint work to prevent break-downs.

There is not too many professional trucking companies that dont use OA.
