If anybody can answer this question I would love to kno, How many horses do u think my 4.2 V6 got with a K/N air filter and magnaflow exhaust with 3 1/2" tips?? Its a 99 F150 with 97,275 miles


I got a few questions on my 1999 F150 XL 4.2. I was wondering which would be the best oil to use in my truck and what I can do to get my power steering pump to quit wining?? If you could help me i would greatly appreciate it

OK, now, on to your questions.....

A) HP? I'd hazard a guess of about 215-220 HP.

B) Oil? I suggest Havoline, Chevron Supreme or Motorcraft 10W30 or 5W20. There are other good oils out there, but I know these work well in the 4.2.
Ford's says 5W20 on the newer motors. If the truck is higher mileage with 10W30, stick with that. No real need for synthetics. Tons of info in the Oil and Lube forum if you want to check in there.

Power Steering pump noise? Can't say for sure. I think the noise comes from the pressure relief valve. You might try draining the fluid and replacing it with new.

 

Thanks Brian A but my truck doesnt leak oil or burn it, it just uses it and i cant figure out what is makin it use it, so if you could help me out on this i would appreciate it? I use 10W40 and im gonna try 5W30 just to see if it makes a difference. I use Pennzoil right now.
