Spark plug gap and 8mm wires

I've seen some recommendations from folks regarding increasing spark plug gap when using the Pertronix Ignitor. Yes or no? If yes, how much?

Also, still looking for a set of 8mm plug wires that will fit the 390 after the wide cap modification - have had one suggestion of a set for a 75 351W - All the parts jockeys want to sell me a universal "make your own" set. I think I would prefer to find a custom set that will fit. I kind of like the look where the wires route around the front of the valve covers instead of over them. Anybody have a suggestion? I am willing to go over the valve covers if necessary.

BTW, put the Pertronix on with the stock cap and wires - makes a big difference in ease of starting. Haven't had it on the road yet, though, it's still blocked inside the garage....

Thanks!

I have DuraSpark and the big cap on my 390. I buy replacement wires for an early 80's 460. They're usually a bit on the long side, but not too bad.

I forgot to mention that I still run .035 gap on my plugs.

I also use 460 wires on my 390. I would not go over a .045 gap. The larger the gap the more stress you put on the high voltage parts and you increase the possibility of crossfirs which can destroy your engine.

I read the articles here on-line about using the adapter to fit the bigger 351 cap. Where do I buy that adapter that goes from the stock dist. to the newer 351 cap?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 06-Jan-03 AT 09:35 AM (EST)]JEGS sells the cap and adapter as a set, I think it includes the long rotor as well. Plenty of this stuff in junk yards as well. I use 8mm plug wires for a 351 Ford (stock). I gap my plugs at 60. I am using Pertronix Ignitor, platinum plugs, Mallory coil and all Ford parts for the rest of it. 27000 miles and no problems.
