'78 3 speed manual - what is it and what gear ratio?

1978 F150 2wd with 302

What model is the 3 speed manual transmission? And what are it's gear ratios? The transmission code on the door tag is "C".

Edit: Oops, I meant to post this in the transmission forum...
.

Ford transmission normally used behind the 300-6 and 302 in 1978

Normal ratio: 2.99 1.75 1.00 R3.17
Wide ratio option: 3.26 1.91 1.00 R3.46

Wow, I had a '77 F100 300 cid six. What tranny ratios would it have? It was 3 speed column shifted manual transmission. Also what axle ratio. My only recollection was that first was not all that low and at 70 mph it seems to have turned around 2500 more or less. thanks

Hi, ford390gashog;
Could you send a link for your 3-speed manual rebuild thread?
Thanks
Brian

Welcome to FTE.

I tried to find his thread, no luck.

Are you trying to rebuild a Ford 3.03 3 speed?

There are parts available for some if not all.

Look for a tag or a number cast into the case. Look for letters like "HEH", "HEG", "RAT", "RAN" and post all the numbers you find.

Thanks, 85e150:

Yeah my second gear getting noisier and noisier until it sounded like 100 rakes across pavement. So I finally parked it, and considering how to proceed next. I will post here on it.

My 3-speed trans has an aluminum tag on the passenger side with the number:

RAT DA LG 4
D5TRNA 0069

Sorry it's been a while.

I have removed my driveshaft,
disconnected the bracket on the crossbeam (long bolt and nut),
disconnected the speedo cable,
disconnected the shift levers,
and removed the 4 bolts holding the gearbox to the
bell housing, but re-tightened in the top 2 bolts to hold
the trans in place until I figure out how to secure and pull the trans.

Do I need to remove the crossbeam under the trans before I remove trans?

If you can't move the transmission straight back far enough to clear the bell, yes.

Since my last message, I have loosened the two 3/4" vertical bolts on the bracket, but I think the whole crossbeam will have to be removed, as you just said, because the 3/4" bolts will not clear in the space they are given.
Thank you for the advice.

Brian
