Are the power steering gearbox's on '77's, and '78-'79's differant?
Anyone ever put on a used one from a boneyard? If so, was it worth using?

Thanks for responding. With a new box running a ridiculous $310, I'll definitely try a salvage yard first.

put in some new seals BEFORE you install it, their cheap, but you'll need a good air wratchet and a puller to put em in,
I found a decent one for $75 , it still going good

If you are looking for a power steering gear box at the wrecking yard what things should you look for? Is it possible to feel play in the shaft? How can you tell if it is going to be worth your time to install?
Thanks,
Terry

If I were you I would stay away from the 78-79 gear boxes ford stoped using the Saginaw(I think i'm not sure) boxes and started making their own that liked to blow seals and wernt all that great. But if you are talking just the power steering pumps the 78-79 are better than the 77 when I do my motor change im going to go with one.
