2000 5.4 into a 1997
I have a 97 f150 with a locked up 5.4 i have found a few year model motors but the best deal is on a 2000 expedition 5.4 motor complete with harness. will this go in my truck without major problems or what all will I have to swap.
or should i try to find a 2004 with 3v heads
thanks

I think the 3V swap is very complicated and you may have EEC problems. Kar Kraft Engineering has 5.4 long blocks for $2,495. I think these are either new or built from new components. I have no association with KKE. I would ask, but these probably have the newer PI "Performance Improved" heads. KKE has an internet site.

I Just Did A Engine Swap On My 97 F150. I Have A 4.2l In Mine And I Couldnt Find Any 97-98 Around Town For A Good Price But When I Called A Junk Yard They Said They Had A 2000 Year Engine. After Calling My Friend At The Ford Dealer He Said I Could Do The Change(swap) If I Changed Intakes,, Other Words Use Your Intake. Atfer I Changed Intakes And Got The Motor In The Truck, I Noticed The Exhaust Manifolds Wouldnt Fit Either. So I Chhanged Them Out And Worked Out Just Fine... Its Now My Daily Driver... Just Use Your Own Manifolds, And Wirring Harnesses. Hope This Will Help You.

its me i didnt realize i was on under a friend of mines name when i first posted.
That is what the guy with the 2000 told me but i had also been told by other junk yards it wouldnt work thats why i need a second opinion. after changing intakes does it loose or change the hp?
Thanks so very much to both.

ngoody24 raises a good point. I think if you use 99 up PI heads, you need a 99 up intake to match the heads, and exhaust manifolds too. If I were doing that, I would research aftermarket intake manifolds too. His situation was with a 4.2, and that is something I am not familiar with. This started out as a 5.4 post, unless ngoody24 meant 4.6 instead of 4.2? His situation was different if it is a V-6 application.

I've got a pretty worn 4.2 that I'd like to rip out of the f150. Ive heard nothing but horror stories from other owners on the net. Anyways, does anyone know if a 5.4 would be a direct swap in place of a 4.2? Would a 4.6 be more feasible? Ngoody, did you have a 4.2 originally? What engine did you upgrade to? Thanks for any info all!!!!
