My brother owns a 2000 Explorer XLT with the V-6. He had the intake gaskets replace under warranty a few years ago. They said the new gaskets were warranted to 72,000 miles. They were replaced again at 60,000 for free. Well the truck has 86,000 and the local dealer just replaced them again for $390!!!

If they will give you a 72,000 mile warranty with the second set why is there no warranty for only 12,000 miles with the third set?

Is this a common problem on this V-6? I have a 97 with the 302V8 so hopefully I won't have this problem. Seems like there should be some kind of recall or at least a TSB to fix this problem. Any help would be appreciated.
