Why did ford quit making the 300-6?

Now that GMs got a few strait 6s, I bet Ford will eventually bring it back, mabey not as durable, or big displacement with an overhead cam and 24 valve with over 200 horspower! Lots of people are buying trucks today for the need for speed and to show off a little. A good die hard work truck with lots of torque for towing but is a little slow, just doesnt add up for all those soccer moms and 9 to 5ers who want to drive around in a little glamour and big price. Hard to believe just 10 years ago a truck as tough as the 300 was less than half the price of a truck (with equal or more torque)as a truck today. They dont make em like they used to.

im not sure about the emissions thing. I started mine up, drove it for 2 minuites to the E-check place, and passed with flying colors. im sure the dual cats help out. Im leaning for the durability part. you cant make money off something that doesn't break (the 4.9l 300 6) that and maybe ford was the only company around with a inline six. also horse power numbers. these days you only hear torque on diesel commercials. nowadays, all the truck commercials brag about horsepower. the efi 300's made 145.

96 was the last year for the 300 in a ford truck, now I didn't know this till I read it on here that ups had 300's in their trucks and they continued to use them till I think 2000. I'd say that ford stopped making the 300 for a number of reasons... it's an old design, it's also fairly long, v8's sell faster, they have good trucks with diesels and want people to opt for them instead. Ford knows what they had but they care more about what sells and how big their back pocket will get. Face it when consumers goto the dealership and they tell them that it's an "inline 6" for the base model but then when they tell you that you can get the v8 that has a lot more horespower they spring for that. Fortuneately for us we know what the 300 is and will be. For me thats probabally the main reason why I bought mine.

Speaking of bringing them back, about 3 months ago I did a little research and found that Ford sell's some cars over in Australia, and they have a few models with an inline 5. Could this be the inline 6? I dont know why this hasnt hit the states yet though. Just thought Id throw my 2 cents in.

An other reason Ford may of quit making the 300 may be price. The 300 is heavy which means it takes more material to build than its new V6 replacement(I would Guess). The 300 also has 7 mains which must cost more to produce than a V6 configuration.
Just a opinion.
