Bad Fuel Pump??

Well, BigRed stranded me for the first time. Drove to work this morning with no troubles, got off work and no vroom. 99.999% sure the fuel pump is gone, but I thought I would throw the symptoms at you all and make sure there aren't any gotchas I missed searching the threads.

1996 Bronco XLT/5.0L
126000 miles

-cranks fine...starts, not so much.
-No fuel pressure at rail (permanently installed gauge on rail shows big fat zero).
-No fuel pump "whine" when I first turn on the key.
-Checked fuel pump fuses-all good
-Fuel pump relay in fuse box same part # as two of the other relays, swapped the relay with another of same part#, no change. I can hear the relay click when the key is first turned on, but swapped anyway just to be sure.
-Inertia switch behind passenger kick panel not tripped.

Like I said before, I am reasonably sure the fuel pump has gone the way of the Dodo. I just seems odd that it would just die and not give any warning that I was doomed to ride home in a tow truck, but here I am.

Before I drop the tank, looking for any last words of wisdom concerning something I may have overlooked and any unpleasant surprises that await me.

I had read dozens of threads on the subject as they popped up, because with 126000 miles, I was actually not too surprised. I remember reading one with the actual bolt sizes, but I cannot seem to find it, so if one of you would share that little piece of information it might save me a few minutes of checking for the right wrenches.

Any warnings about fuel pump manufacturers before I go to the parts store?

Looks like a cold, wet day in the driveway for me tomorrow.

Did you try resetting the enertia switch? My wife parked her Mustang in the driveway, the next morning it wouldn't start, the enertia switch had gone bad, replaced the switch and it was good to go. Another time with the same
88 Mustang she drove it to the gas station filled up, drove to work that afternoon when she got in to come home the fuel pump was dead. I wish the pump would have died before she filled up. Both times their was no warning.

did ya miss the part where I said "inertia switch behind passenger kick panel not tripped"? That was the first thing I thought of when the fuses checked good. I will probably read voltage across it in the morning though. I checked to make sure it was not tripped, I guess it could just be bad. Worth a quick check, thanks.

HOLY CRAP!!! Local Ford dealer wants $278.67 for the assembly. Advance (right around corner) only wants $134.44. Guess I am going to Advance.

94XLT, I just re-read my reply to you last night. I was still irritated from the tow truck ride and I sounded like a horse's posterior to you. Sorry about that

Switch good, pump bad. Checked the voltage at the tank, good 12V at all the right times but nothing from the pump. Picked up all the parts today, didn't feel like rolling around under the truck in the rain. Planning to drop the tank tomorrow.
