ford copied by gmc,and nisson
just another who copied who gripe but the more i look at it i sware the gmchd and nisson titan copied the ford super dutys mirrors. sure there are styling differences with the gmc but its basically the same design. large rectangular mirror with two horizontal bars for support. the nissons on the other hand are a carbon copy in my opinion. is this just another instance of auto manufactuers knocking each other off. cant these designs be copy righted? just want to know what you think.

Nissan did design their truck based off of what americans liked most about their trucks. The most popular truck design in that time was, Ford superduties. The new chevy mirrors I've seen aren't anything like the ford mirrors. I will say that if you bump the mirrors on a chevy, you'll break it. A freind of mine hit a plastic stick on the highway at 20mph. It broke it and made it look like a sagging arm from the robot on ,"Lost in Space"

When was the last time you saw a Japanese car exhibit any feature that was NOT already invented by a European or American?
Rotory engine? Wankel did it first.
OHC? English/French
Sure, they made them bulletproof but I don't think I can recall one simple thing they invented first.
All the Asian cars are knockoffs of something else. Why design something from scratch? Just copy what the Americans or Europeans have already done, that way there's a sure market for it.
I think this topic is very interesting...
When it comes to computers, about 15 years ago, there was a Japanese initiative to build the "next generation" of computers. NEC, among others including the gov't, spent millions of dollars. 10 years later, with nothing to show for it but some really nice technical papers, they tried to auction off the "intellectual property". If memory serves, Sun, HP, IBM, Intel, etc. were there for the auction. I don't think a single one of them actually bought anything. Why? Because they were already pushing technology way past what the Japanese had been theorizing about for 10 years.

This is an interesting thread. Because I specifically remember sitting in one of the first 2004 F-150s that rolled off the assembly line. And as I sat in it the first thing that came to mind is, "This interior looks like a carbon copy of the Nissan Maxima." It was like being inside a Nissan sedan with four-wheel-drive. Who's copying who here?
