97/F-150, 4.2, Both O2 sensors failed at same time?
Truck sat in Dry Barn for three or four very wet rainey days.
When I went to start it, it coughed, spat chugged and finally after I let off and re-tried it started.
Later that day. I parked it, went in to get the wife, and when I started it, the Check engine lite came on.
AZ's computer says Both O2 sensors, one in front of the Cat and one in back, both failed.
I wonder if I could reset the Codes and see if they come back?
Could it be something else, that appears to be Both Co2 sensors?
Are they something I can pull and clean?

OK, that's about what I thought. There's probably a Voltage reading that will tell me which one it is.
I thought it was just damp, combined with a 'going bad' throttle body plate sensor cam whatever it really is.
I just dont have money and time right now for such foolishments.
Thanks for the quick reply. This is a great site because of the guys on it.

Unhook your battery for 15-20 minutes to reset the computer. Reconnect it and drive it for a few days. If the CEL comes back on, then take it to AZ for a scan. WRITE DOWN THE EXACT CODES in the exact order they come out of the scanner. DO NOT let the drones at the store try to diagnose the fault. Thank them for their time, come back here, and either SEARCH for your codes or ask about them.
O2 sensors won't cause the symptom you described. Moisture laden plug wires will, though. Although the barn was out of the rain, the humid air was inside.

If they're easy enough to remove, you might try disconnecting battery 1st, remove,
and spray clean with throttle body/air intake cleaner on tips. Make sure they're
completely dry before re-installing and use a dab of anti-seize on the threads. I've had
luck removing some of the carbon that way myself. I'm not sure if I've extended the
life any, but it made my codes go away, and I've got 4 O2's on mine (4.6L)! Good
luck!

Thanks steve. If it warms up today I'll take a look at the one before the Cat and the one after.
Now it has a new sound. sortal like the sound it makes when it's out of coolant and is sucking out of the expansion tank.
I dont know what I'll do if I pull those sensors and find anti-freeze on them.

I found it and Fixed it.
I did not think two sensors would go bad at once.
The problem was a small Right Angle Hose in the Vacuam circuit. It's under the Upper Manifold, and just in front of the Throttle body.
I went to Ford first. They replace all of it, the line and both ends for almost $20, and he had to order it.
So I went to AZ. They had something almost exactly similar in the Help stuff. It fit a Chrysler. $3. n change.
I had a Heckuva time fitting it in there. Such a small closed in space.
But the Status' went away, the Whisteling sucking sound went away, and the Codes were gone when I re-connected the Battery.
I drove it a bit and the status' did not come back.
