Help finding PCV, repair manual

Help finding PCV, repair manual
Greetings,
I could use some help with a couple of things I've been unable to find. First, the proper Motorcraft part number for the PCV I need. 2003 F-150 w/ 5.4L V-8. Part "EV233" was one I found on one site, but when I put that part no in at the Motorcraft site, my truck does not come up on the chart. Believe the smaller V-8 did, as well as some E-series vans. Just want to make sure. Also, (and I'm not a mechanic at all, so need to be taken by the hand here), where do I find the PCV exactly? Think I read somewhere that it's about the size of a thumb and is inside of a "air intake" hose in the engine compartment, but that doesn't mean a lot to me other than I have to start under the hood. I'd like to purchase one and be able to replace myself as I'm going to live in Portugal for a few years and am not sure what I'll find re auto mechanics. Which leads to my other question......I can't seem to find a Haynes, Chilton or ANY repair manual for my specific model year. Book, cdrom....I'm not picky. Can't find anything after 2002. What gives?
Many thanks in advance! (welcome emails as well... mmoon3@verizon.net)

The aftermarket manuals take some time to come but I would think yours should be out by now. I have a source for online manuals but just can't recall it right now. Will update when I have it.
Don't know the part part number but from my haines manual (only goes up to 02) shows the PCV is on the passanger side valve cover, roughly in the middle. They're always on the valve covers. The only thing you could confuse it with is a breather, which are not used on all motors these days.

Did I find it?
Hey, thanks for the reply, Grsyhands! I looked and in the middle of the valve cover is a L shaped black rubber boot. I gently pulled on it and with little effort, it popped out, revealing a cylindrical silver thing that was down inside the hole in the valve cover. Does that sound like the pcv? I'd say about an inch, maybe a little less extends from the rubber boot. Looked like about the diameter of a nickel. If this is the pcv, does it pull out of the rubber boot as well? I did not see a part number, but again, I did not remove the thing from the boot.
Thanks again!

Hi and welcome to FTE
According to www.motorcraft.com you need an EV238 for your truck.
It sounds like you've found it. It's in about the middle of the passenger's side valve cover.

Agreed, looks like you found it. Just out of curiousity why are you changing it? If you have 60k+ or have not been using the oil specified for your truck (but you should) it's not a bad idea. Just for haha's, give it a light shake. If it rattles easily, like a paint can it is probably okay, I think.

Mike,
You may want to check out this site. A freind sent this to me last week but I haven't had time to really check it out. What I did see is that it's a source for online manuals. I think it's a sub of autozone or one of those consumer parts stores so it is likely their manual source is Haynes or Clymer. Hope this helps.

I'd suggest sticking with the Motorcraft PCV valve instead of any aftermarket replacements.
