? for guys with headers

Do you guys that have headers, Banks or Borla specifically, have ANY kind of flutter at any rpm's? If not, my theory is the exhaust coming out of each cylinder is coliding in the cast iron manifold, creating some kind of funky turbulance. What do you guys think?

it's what you think brett. thats why ford had that bummer of a y-pipe to help lessen the pulse flutter. i have it with the headers on mine also. just that the 3 valve is not as bad as the 2 valve.
i'm sure skipperw, monsta and few others who have the same motor and mod.can help you better then me.

Thanks Chas. I'm hoping Banks guys will chime in. I'm wondering if the Powerpickle in the Banks headers helps straighten these pulses out. If it does, I maybe headed that way.

If it were the manifolds then everybody who has modified exhaust and stock manifolds would experience flutter, right?

I don't have any problems with it. Wonder if it is all those weird bends before the collector that creates the turbulence and not the manifolds.

It looks like there are a couple of different styles exhaust manifolds too.

For a while I had duals without headers. I had exhaust flutter/pulsing. I installed my headers and it just smoothed everything out. So yeah I think some of it is in the stock manifolds.

I haven't had any problems with the banks power pack on my 99 V-10 SD. The headers do make it quite a bit louder in the cab, i guess headers and the muffler make it louder.

Just screw it all, cut the flanges off a set of headers and run pipes out through holes in the hood!

Yeah, 10 flameflowers!!!!!!!!!!

That's one way to defrost the windshield...

I have waited to chime in on this one to see the cause of my new found exhaust noise on my 03' V10. I have the Banks Powerpack on mune since July of 2004. I have put about 30K miles on it since then. I never herd any kind of "funky flutter sound" at all until recently. At the same rpm (1800) I would get a growly wierd sound. Thsi seemed to arrive out of the blue. I took care of the tinny sound with the dust shield long ago. So this one got me thinking. Flutter? I thought. I checked it out today with the weather beign so nice for January, I discovered with listening and shaking the exhaust system that it was the heat shield on the cat. I have no idea how the fix it due to that it is welded. Worm gear clamps maybe?

Bottom line it was not flutter and the Banks Powerpack hase no flutter on my V10.

i just checked ebay they some one selling gibson headers , in steel and stainless for under $200.00.
mike
thanks for the reminder about those welds breaking on the cat heat sheilds. DAH! yes a worn gear clamp will work find one for a boats rubber hose to pipe thats about long enough for a 6inch pipe. otherwise it's a trip to a welding shop.

chas, thanks for the e-bay info. I will have to go Borla or Banks though as they are CARB certified.

On edit, I see the seller says they are CARB certified. My truck has no EGR.
