Exhuast options for '69

I came across this site while searching for parts so I figured I would ask those that have done this before instead of beating my head against the desk.

I just purchased a '69 F100 Ranger today and noted a few things I need to address.

The first being the exhuast. I can tell it has a leak in one pipes, so I want to fix this first. The motor is a 360 and from what I can tell it's the stock exhuast and manifolds.

I'd like to get a set of headers and possibly a dual system. The stupid question at this point on my part is where to look for something that is somewhat bolt on?

Any other links or sites to look at for parts would be appreciated. I'm sure I'll be here often now that I finally took the plunge.

check www.summitracing.com for bolt on headers. then from there you can add the exhaust.

If you go duals with headers add a X crossover, your motor will be happy.

I would buy a set of Hooker headers and install them. Then take a very noisy trip to a good exhaust shop and have a set of 2 and 1/2" duals put on. Check out the galleries for the look you want. Some guys have the duals exiting in front of the one or both rear tires, some behind and others, like me, old schoos directly out the back. Let us know how you do and post photos.

Thanks for the welcome!

Some more probably really dumb questions:

Thank you ford390gashog; Summit has a kit with Blackjack headers, all piping, mufflers and associated hangers and connectors. It is a 2 1/4" system, I know that a larger diameter will provide better performance but what will the "X" crossover that "Beemer Nut" suggested provide?

Also, I'm not looking to outrun Z06's or anyting like that. I'd just like to get a little bump in performance while fixing a problem that needs to be addressed. How much difference is there realistically between 2 1/4" and 2 1/2" (not really looking for HP numbers but driving wise)?

i went with 2.5'' pipe on mine. the summit kit is not the best but will work. i went with the 109.00 dynomax headers.

Stay away from mail order exhaust kits as they are made of 16 gauge tube.
Buy two 14 gauge 180 degree mandrel bents and three lengths of straight from a local muffler shop. With a chop saw and welder you can make your own custom exhaust system alot better and cheaper than a muffler shops crush bender machines.Time is money as they will slam a quick and dirty job and charge too much. It's a fun challenge project to tackle, enjoy.

I'd like to fab up a system, but I don't have a welder and the last time I did any welding was 15 some odd years ago.

It would be nice to get something that I could somewhat bolt on, but I'm not opposed to doing some fab work. Wonder how I can get the wife to sign off on a welding rig

Of course I also don't want to be replacing the system in another year or so. I guess the best compromise would be to get a set of headers and then find a reputable shop in the area. Anyone know a good muffler shop in the Fremont / SF Bay Area?

Spudly55, heck were neighbors i'm in Alameda. PM or email me i'll sent you some exhaust pictures on what I made as I can't (or know how) to get photos posted on the FTE forum. Check your FTE mail box.
Far as the wife aka "WAR DEPARTMENT" buy here something that sparkles, get a welder then weld up a bird feeder or flower pot for her.
Be sure to add ice to reduce that lump on you head she gave you.

Thanks gashog, i'll have to look into that as I can screw up big time with puters.
Lets see, sierraben's in S.F. app 14 miles from me, your what 28 (?) miles from Alameda and Spudly55 in Fremont around 26 miles. Just a wild guess with mileage.

B Nut, Did you read the instructions for the gallery here? I haven't tried myself but it can't be that hard to do.

I have seen a lot of issues with folks trying to load photobucket pictures also.

IMHO, Sizing is the big issue anyways. Most simple (free) photo programs will resize photos.

One of my biggest gripes is guys don't think before they snap a photo. They shoot from the shadow side of of the vehicle rather than the sunny side, or wait until it is too dark.

How many FEs with chrome valve covers, alum intake, 4 barrel carb with a paper filter and colored sparkplug wires does a man need to see anyways????
