Question for FTE

I'm only 18 and all I remember is fords. My dad has owned anything from (what I can remember) a 53 truck
64 truck
6-66 galaxies
3-66trucks
70 truck
73 plow truck
77 truck
79 bronco
80 gas/bulk fuel truck
86 plow truck
92 truck
94 truck
97 truck
98 truck
That's what I can remember. I have a 69 truck, my brother has a 98 truck and a 94 Explorer and used to have an 86 ranger.
I guess you could say it runs in the family.
My dad owns a auto repair shop and we see more che*ys and do#ges than anything else.
So I'm a Ford fan and probably always will be!

Question for FTE

When I was 8 my Mother needed a truck to pull her 12,000 lb trailer. But since she was only going to tow 4-6 times a year she also wanted decent gas milage for around town driving. My Grandfather who had driven semi's for 50 years. Picked out a F-250 with the 351 coubled with a 5spd and a 4.10 axle. With first gear being the granny for towing (top speed is 7mph) and having the smaller v-8 with over drive she got the best of both worlds. When I turned 16, she started towing every weekend and had gotten tired of the manual and wanted a truck with a little more punch when hauling the trailer around. So she got a 94 Dodge 2500 488 auto (which hauls a$$). I inherited the Ford. (Which I will offically buy in 5 months.)

Question for FTE

Ford Motors are know for there durablilty the 302, the 460 the 351 they are know to go the distance and go the extra mile. Unlike chevy's who usually average out around 150,000 miles and then die. I have seen fords that have 300,000 on them and still start and run like they has 2 miles on them. There the only way to go.

Question for FTE

LAST EDITED ON 31-Jan-01 AT 08:08 PM (EST)[p]

Ever see what holds the front suspension on on a 2WD GM truck? Looks like big muffler clamps - no comparison to Ford's twin I-beam suspension. I would never drive a brand-X truck off road or anywhere for that matter.

Did you look at cab mounts? Look at a 70's GM truck and you'll see the cab crossmember is a piece of stamped sheetmetal in the shape of a "Z", whereas Ford has a fully boxed cab mount design that's rigid as heck!

In one summer, I put THREE engines in a guy's GMC! He wasn't a leadfoot either, all three failed engines had broken crankshafts. The money bought me lots of gas for my 1969 F250 4x4!

After working on them, the difference becomes clear...

Question for FTE

I've had 3 Ford trucks: '76 F150/w 360 c6, '73 F150 /w 351w 3 on the tree, and '85 F150 /w I6 3sd w/OD(current). I've also driven the others on many occassions and given the choice, I'll take my 2 wheel drives to the woods any day. Of the three, on the same woods roads, the Fords will travel over things without bottoming out where Chevy and Dodge lower control arms hit and scrape. In places where the Ford does hit, I'd sooner the solid iron I-beam than the stamped control arms of the others. That said, give my something thats 'FORD TOUGH'.

Question for FTE

Reason I'm a Ford man (besides it's in my name: Winford)

When I was 18 my dad helped me buy my first car, by co-signing the note. I paid for it. It was a '55 Chevy. I got married a few months later, and while driving on our honeymoon, I stopped every 80 miles, got a quart of oil from the trunk and added it.

I had the engine overhauled, then 3000 miles later, same problem.
I traded it for a Morris Minor. Bet not many of you have ever seen one of them. I wore it out in a few months, and paid the Buick dealer (who sold Buicks to my dad) to let me buy a used Ford Falcon (62). He reluctantly sold it to me, cause he thought he would lose my dad as a customer if he sold me a bad car.

Turned out to be the first GOOD car I owned. Since then I have not been without a Ford. Have owed two or more of most everything, Falcons, F100, F150, 65,68,70,92,96 Mustangs, Rangers explorers...the list goes on.

Now I own 91 and 98 explorer, 96 Mustang Gt, 54 F100. My son followed suit, with F150, Mustang, Escape, 65 Mustang.

When we are driving and start to smell oil burining, my wife says " I smell a chevy!".

WinFORD.

Question for FTE

Sixte1F100, I grew up around trucks. Over time, we have had many different types of trucks. Also many different brands. We have had the best luck with Fords in our business. I myself always liked the look of a Ford and always liked the way they handle on the road. There never seemed to be anything on a Ford that was a porblem that would make me want to go to a different manufacturer. My mind was made up before I even had a drivers license.

Question for FTE

The reason I won't drive anything but fords is because besides being some of the most dependable vehicle on the road, my dad and my grandpa drove nothing but fords ( Although he drove one early 80's C$%$^%^%^%y station wagon, but the 305 motor died at 140,000 miles). That was the last General Maintenence (GM) Product he owned). He used to race flathead V8 fords when he was young. I got my 1st car from him, a 82 Fairmount with the 200 I-6. He had to get rid of it for insurance reasons (too many cars on the policy). That little car ran like a champ, even with little or no compression in cylinder No. 5 for 40,000 miles. That little motor wasn't very fast, but it withstood 4 years of abuse by a teenager with a lead foot . If I had that car today, it would probably be held together with duct tape, but that 200 I-6 would still be running like a champ. After driving that car, I was hooked. Fords don't die, they just improve with age like a fine wine.

Question for FTE

When I turned 16 I inherited a 1989 Chevy station wagon. It proved once and for all that Chevys are pieces of S%!t. I had only had the car for a month when the transmission died. I thought well, I'll just get it fixed. Two months later it kicked the bucket again, this time while I was going down the road. I had it fixed again and 2 months later the engine blew up. I then got a 1994 F-150.

Question for FTE

All I remember is Ford too. Well, only one, cause it has lasted my entire life. (My 1978 is a year older than me)

When you learn to drive on a Ford (4 speed) in the back field like I did when I was 14, I guess something stays with you.
I love that truck, and I have since restored it with my Dads help.

Plus driving a P.O.S. GMC with a 350cid and hardly functional 4wd will make you puke. No ***** at all. What the hell are the mags talking about? The 350 the best smallblock ever? Ever driven a Ford boys?
My uncle is on his 2nd truck in 5 years and 3rd engine. YUK!

Rather have my Ford with the same engine for 20 years, then rebuild it!

Matt
