2000 F150 7700 5.4 4x4
I am considering purchase of a 2000 F150 7700 5.4 4X4 XLT Ext cab 4Dr. it has 139,000 miles.
Any comments or expirience with this combo would be greatly appreciated. I am looking for fuel mileage figures/driveline problems to look for, etc. I know about the occasional problem with water leaking at the hood/cowel seal and getting the rear plugs wet/fouled. Anything else I need to know???
I am not afraid of high mileage Fords, this one is actually low miles for me as I own a 96 Econoline 4.9 Quigley 4X4 with 220,00 miles a 96 Explorer 4.0 with 180,00 miles and had a 97 Ranger with 170,000 miles when I sold it. No problems with any except for routine maintainence (Oil, filter, tune ups and brakes) none of them ever used any oil and always passed inspection.
Thanks in advance!

I have the same setup except mine is not a 7700. I also have a 3.55 rear end, whereas you should have a 3.73. I think that will help the mileage though. I get about 14 average mpg 60% highway, 40% city. Its hilly aroung here and the wind is usually blowing so I think I would get another couple of mpg's on the flats. I wouldn't expect seeing anything over 16 though. I went through a transmission at 88,000 miles(just bougth the truck). I suggest turning the overdrive off if it has any problem holding the speed you want. Other than that, i really have no complaints. Mine will pull a 6 or 7K stock trailer well with OD off unless the wind is fierce. I get anywhere from 8.5-11 pulling this.

Thanks, I did a search and came up with a lot of info. The current owner is a friend and told me 12 MPG is what it gets and I was using fuel mileage that his truck is getting as one of the factors to help determine the condition of the engine. seems like most with the same set up as the truck I'm looking at get about the same depending on how they are driven and what percentage is Hwy/Cty. I know how this guy drives and while he dosn't beat the truck he drives faster than I would on the same roads. Let's just say if he gets 12 I should get 14-15.

No real problems with my 7700. Issues related to the standard duty F150 do apply. Right now, I'm getting 13.5 mpg w/a 50/50 mix city/hiway. I also have a homemade FIPK, shortened exhaust (no muffler, exits in front of tire), predator tuner w/ no special tunes. My mileage has dropped by about a 1/2 mpg with these mods. In a recent trip, the 7700 got 17.18mpg with 95% hiway. It's gets about 10 mpg towing a 6000lb travel trailer averaging 45 mph.
If you want indepth info look at this thread... http://www.fordtrucks.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=309867
If you do buy it... congrats and welcome to the 7700 - 250LD club.

By the way, yes, I posted the wrong thread.. man I hate when I do that.
From Ford's Snowplow Prep Guide... this is for the 4x4, the 4x2 is similar without the 4wd.

7700 Payload Group (V8) (Option Code 627)Includes:
— GVWR - 7700 lb
— Powertrain - 5.4L engine with 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission and 3.73 axle ratio
— GAWR/torsion bars, front - 4150 lb
— Upgraded radiator (1.42 inch core thickness)
— Battery, 72 amp hr
— Auxiliary transmission oil cooler
— LT245/75RX16D OWL all-terrain tires with BSW spare
— 16"x 7"J Argent styled steel wheels (7-hole disc) (chrome styled steel with XLT and Lariat)
— Other heavy duty components — frame (4.00 cu. in. section modulus), shock absorbers (1.38" diameter), jack (2-ton), rear axle (5300 lb capacity), rear springs/GAWR (4800 lb)
In 2002 Ford added an option B on the 2WD reg cab 7700 which gave it a 4.10 rear gear option.
The 7700 also has a higher GCWR which mean a higher towing rating. The front brakes are the same part as a Lightning. Until 2001 the 4R70W (code U) and 4R100 (code E) could be found in the 7700. The rear axle is a 10.25" semi-floating Visteon (Sterling) unit. The front on the 4x4's are the same 8.8" units found in the non-7700 F150s (reverse cut).
Got a question about your 7700 or F250LD... I'll try to find the answer.
