Smile Sunday morning no start

Went to start the truck this morning and it would not start. The truck would crank like it was 80 deg outside but the real temp was 34 and wet"truck not plugged in". My first thought was cam sensor but the rpm gauge moved"very little" but did move. Every 3 to 5 crank it hit for a second but would not start after about 12 attempts it started and run fine all the way to work. I will go and try to start it and see if it does it again. ANY HELP WHAT MIGHT BE WRONG WOULD BE GREAT THANKS!!!!!!!!!!

It sounds like a fuel system problem? It's not the CPS if the RPM's moved slightly.

Can anyone add to this? My old F-250 w/ the PSD did that once and awhile, but a cause was never found.

smoked white "yes" after the 5 try i cycled 3 times and then tried and no go! I have been reading the post"Official Glow Plug/gpr/hard Winter Start And White Smoke Thread " GP checked out at the pins on the v cover (that harness is a $%^&$ to get off) and the GPR checked out to. I have not pulled the v cover off and checked the UTV harness retaining clips talked about in that forum. Am i on the right path!!

How long did the glow plug indicator stay on? Wonder if controler went bad. Being that many attempts it would warm the cylinders enough so they would fire.

I have checked the truck 2 times this morning and it starts right now! The wait to start indicator cycled normal this morning.

Sounds like a glow plug system failure, I'm going through this right now. Check the relay (looks like an old ford starter relay) for voltage at the front drivers side big post (I think??). The relay is located on the top of the motor, behind and to the passenger side of the HPOP/fuel filter plastic cover.

I checked the glow plug relay and with key on i have 10 to 11 volts coming out of it for about 20 to 30 sec then the relay opens and no volts" relay working its cycle" so I think it is good.

Yes I'm no expert but each cylinder has its own glow plug and they are under the valve cover 4 on each side. I read a post that said you could check the glow plugs by unplugging the harness on top of the valve cover and checking ohms on the 2 outside tabs and you should have .8 ohms and I did so they should be good from what I read.

mine wont start after sitting??

okay ist getting colder here in the north east and my truck will not start after sitting for 12 hours or longer after an 8 hour shift at work its hard to start, and if i use either it will run on it for a few seconds like it has lost its prime either (which i will be switching to a diesel squirt bottle)is the hpop leaking down or fuel system lost prime as the entire gp system is brand new gpr-110 and 8 new plugs all ohms check within spec i suspect it is getting air-bound cause it will fire every 3-5 crank of the starter. sounds like out of fuel to me i was i diesel mechanic for 4 years on mechanical cats but this oil fired injection is a different language to me

I would start by looking at the fuel filter to be sure it is snug. Seen where they was put on tight but somehow the seal shrinks a little letting just a little bit of air into the system. Then i would go from there following the fuel system and just checking everything. Tooo cold to be messing around in the parking lot after working all day and wanting to go home.

beginning to hate my powerstroke

just snugged down the filter cap some more but when cycling the key to make the lift pump run i here a hiss coming from a fitting cant tell wich one yet but i hope its just getting air-bound and not a lift pump or injectors... if it does start it has a good miss for a while even did this in like 60 deg weather or damp days rainy and such...

Yes that missing is a good indication of air in the system. Then it runs good after about a couple of miles?
