The 4.6L intake will not fit a 5.4L without spacer adapters due to the deck height difference. The 5.4L is taller and wider so the 4.6L intake is too narrow to reach both heads. The heads will interchange though.

Hey, that's cool... you owned up to a whoopsie, too many people around here never apologize for giving out bad info.

I was not aware of a spacer... makes sense, though, the valley is wider.

As far as the heads go... Let me see if I can find it, but I think there was a Mustang 4.6 with cast iron heads.

Edit: There are, in fact, no FoMoCo cast iron heads for the mod motors... but I found a cool link for those that would like to know what currently swaps

I saw a custom set for this swap when HotRod mag did the 5.4L swap into a 99 GT Mustang. They compared heads and cams. (both were PI and Identical). They used the 4.6 intake and used aluminum spacer/adapters for the swap.

You can really learn a lot from those Mustang guys. Seems they have been around the block a time or two with these Modular engines.

That's actually who I look up first to get the technical info. I think the reason why is the 4.6 is now the Mustang's bread and butter... GM may have quit building pony cars, but there's plenty of the old players still around and the imports, too. The Mustang still needs to be upgraded by the aftermarket... it's just that the aftermarket took a little while to catch up.

The articles were in 5.0 Magazine, not HotRod... If you are swapping a 5.4 into an F150 just use an F150 intake, it will perform much better than a 4.6 intake with adapter plates as the adapters add a pretty healthy jog to the port.

Might have been MuscleMustangsandFastFords, but I'm pretty sure HotRod did one too. That's the only 2 magazines I read.

LOL, not worth arguing over but trust me it was 5.0 Magazine, I wrote the articles....

MM&FF also had a 5.4 swap car at one point, but it was just a feature not the articles that tested all the parts and used the adapter plates, those were mine.

edit: can anybody tell me why my sig. shows up in a 'preview post' but won't show up in the post itself???

I stand corrected. I went thru my mags and found the article. It was in the only issue of 5.0 Magazine that I have. Your initials must be D.S.
I believe that you must have X amount of threads before your sig. shows up.

4.6L = 3.55 inch bore x 3.54 inch stroke
5.4L = 3.55 inch bore x 4.17 inch stroke
6.8L (V10) = 3.55 inch bore x 4.17 inch stroke

blocks are different, heads are interchangeable between the 4.6 and 5.4.
