Clicking Steering Column

I have a strange noise when I start to go over about 30 mph. A clicking noise in a very rhythmic pattern begins in my steering column. It sounds like something is spinning and hitting some portion of the upper portion of the steering column. The noise is very close to the steering wheel, but obviously behind it.

Any tips on figuring this thing out?

If you are driving straight at 30 mph there isn't anything turning in your steering wheel. Often vibrations and noises can carry through the steering column. I would suspect you have a wheel or drivetrain noise that just sounds as though it is behind the steering wheel. You may want to roll down your window when it is doing it and see if you can hear it on the outside as well. If you might have a better idea of what it is.
