All I can offer is that that was a common ratio for the big cars mid sixties to late seventies. Pretty much any big four door with an automatic from that era had close to a 3.00:1 ratio. Good luck, Rich.

3.00 third members are plentiful in the yards. average about 30 to 50 depending on the yard. you will need a 28 spline unit. Easy swap

Dont get into chaning ring and pinions on nine inchers unless you have the expertise and tools to set it up.

Hi Guys!
Thanks for the info. I guess this is a 9, i really dont know. i checked the plate on it and it says what is currently in it is a 3.70. i dont know if this helps or not. i can take things apart, replace things, but tell you what it is i fall short on. i am a newbie at this still. sorry.
so what car should i be looking for to get what i need? cause there are no trucks that i have found. i have been trying to go through the listing services and calling yards but nothing. i want to do what garbz2 said just do a simple swap.
Thanks fellas!

I got my pumkin from a older LTD with a 400. It had 3.00 gears and worked great for getting my mileage up.

Look at 60s era pickups with 352s and automatics. That would be a starting point. Expect to find 3.00 rather than 3.08, but if ya aint racing it shouldn't matter than much anyways.

Thats right, but they will have 31 spline axles. He needs a 28 spline chunk.

31 spline is used in the f150 the f100 had 28 , then there were also plenty of f150 regular cabs made with 28 spline units , 4x4 f100's had 31 splines.

also it really does not matter which unit he finds if he finds a good 31 spline unit with a 3.00 he can just swap over his spider gears and make it a 28 spline unit.
