I was driving to work the other day, fishtailed in the iced and my baby rolled over twice. The cab is pretty messed up as well as the right side. Frame and drivetrain is fine. What do you guys suggest I do? I was thinking trying to find a parts truck that I could swap all the body parts off. Are there any aftermarket cabs I could pick up cheap? Let me know, thanks for your time.

 

the fact you rolled it all the way.. 2 times.. the hole body is shot.. if you layed it on
its side you would be ok but its gone.

swappen cabs would not be hard at all you just need some good friends and some
free time on your hands.. Just have to find a good parts truck cheap.

You could do it alone but it would just take longer.

My friend did it to his truck when he got t-boned.

 

I would take the motor and tranny out, whatever else good parts there is, and swap it into something else.

 

Part out the old, rolled, truck, and get another, newer one.

 

I would part it out. I got hit on the drivers side and then it slide and hit a car. They side I could rebuilde it but it would never be right again. I would look and see if you could find another truck like it and you could keep that one as a parts truck.

 

Good Luck finding a parts truck. I picked up a 97 a few months ago with front end and pass side damage. You can get after market stuff for the front end but anything back of the windshield you have to go to Ford (And they think a lot of their body parts). Door panels are 200 plus (front n rear). A whole door is almost inpossable to find, and you can't just get a rocker panel ( you have to buy the whole door jam). Tail gates are selling for 400 plus (if you can find one) but you can get the shell after market for about 150.

If it were me, I'd either part it out or set a really cool old truck body on my newer frame.

 

What about replacement roof panels? Anyone know where i can get one? My bodywork isnt bad I can fix the other panels. I'm thinking if I can find a roof for it I can weld that up and have a beater for the next few years. The body shop wanted $9k to fix it, $6k was for the roof.

If you had rolled it on its side or roof (I did that in one of my 73's) I would say no problem, but twice, you may have frame damage. Have the frame checked for straight and if its NG keep it as the parts truck and find something with a blown drivetrain....good luck. Hows your head?!

The best advice I can give... keep shiny side up.

Aftermarket is going to cost you a lot more than junkyard or individual. I got a non-running 77 with a very good cab(sheet metal wise, interior was shot), good frame, bed, suspension, tranny, and rear end for $500. If you can find a similar deal you can keep the cab, part off the rest, sell the leftovers to the junkyard, and maybe even come out ahead.(except for time. That almost never works.)

 

Yea I didn't figure the roof would be cheap. I dont know how I did it but somehow I didn't mess the truck up too bad when I rolled it. The roof is crushed about 2 inches in, the front left fender is banged up, the hood is out of alignment and I broke the front right headlight. Everything else somehow got untouched. She runs and drives great, I kicked the windshield out of it and was running it around my property in the snow. I might take the easy way out and weld up a new roof, But theres a 48 International that caught my eye, that might not be bad to drop on top of her....
