A friend bought some cheap tires for a 71 240Z at walmart. They were ok for a year or so. The car then sat for a year in a garage. The tires delaminated(as in steel belt seperation) and began leaking through the treads. I live in Texas, and around here messing with cheap tires will only give you a blowout and the opportunity to replace a fended or two... and your shorts.

I'll second the discount tires vote. We've used them for many years and many vehicles and have only gotten bad tires twice I think. They were promply replaced, no questions, no bills.

Just dragging this thread back up after looking back at a previous comment about Uniroyal Liberators having only recalls coming up on google. I noticed you changed your tune after that particular post and all of a sudden wanted to put on BFGs, so I googled Uniroyal Liberator and came up with this as well as a bunch more on the same recall.

I purchased Liberators for my '82, back in '02. I know those tires are not being recalled after reading your post BD.

Personally, I never had an issue with mine. Even after the truck has sat for a few months, the balance is still good on them. The only pair of BFG's I have had experience with were so noisy, my folks simply went back to the brand that came on their Bronco, Goodyear.

I'd say if the recall doesn't scare your away, go with what you feel comfortable with. In my case, Liberators were just fine.

I just like to get a laugh at people that want to rag on the Liberator but are running BFGs totally oblivious to the fact that BFG actually makes the Liberator for Wal Mart, and its just a variation of the BFG A/T with a diffirent name. I just put a new set on my truck a couple days ago and the sidewall now says Uniroyal but the DOT numbers still indicate that they are manufactured by BFG. I emailed Uniroyal and BFG about this and am just waiting on their reply.

What I dont like about the BFG's from WalMart is the skidding on wet roads. The compound seems to be so hard that they slide when you get down on the brakes hard.
I bought from WalMart when I was traveling because they have the Guarentee service at any store (just about) but if the local guy had something like that, I'd buy from him instead.
That way you get the Company's run of tires instead of something made at WalMart's demand of a cheaper product.
