ABS Light and Brake Light On.

I have a 98' F-150 XL and recently my parking brake light and my ABS light came on. They go off when I start my truck but come back on a few seconds later. The ABS light will stay off if I start my truck with the brake pedal pressed but comes on as soon as I release the brake pedal. Didn't know if any of you guys had any ideas on what might be wrong.

I have been reading other forums and it sounds like it could be the sensor on top of my rear diff. but I was still hoping for some input since it's both my ABS light and brake light.

Thanks.

Could be the sensor...but start with the easier items. Brake fluid level and brake pad conditions.

Like he said - check the fluid first. If its OK, its probably the rear diff sensor. Its only about $20 so its cheaper to try it than to have an ABS system diagnosed.

How much is involved in changing this sensor out? Tools/time? Thanks again for you help. Also, when I drove my truck last night i noticed sort of a squeeking sounds coming from my brakes I assumer when I would turn to the left. It almost sounded like rusty leaf springs flexing but it was coming from my brakes I assumre.

Thanks.

It's not the sensor on the rear differential.

Check your brake fluid level, the parking brake switch, and the fuse for the ABS computer (F13). If F13 is blown, you can suspect a leaky cruise switch as a possible culprit.

The circuits are different depending on whether you have 4-Wheel (4WABS) or Rear-only (RABS) system. If you specify, I can provide you with accurate diagnostic info.

Fluid level is fine, Where do I check the parking brake switch? Also, fust f13 is not blown. I am not sure if I have 2 or 4 wheel ABS but if I had to guess I would say only 2. Hope to hear back soon and thank you very much for your help.
