What's that noise?!?!?

Hello members. First post here, looking for a bit of help. I have a 2002 F-150, extended cab, FX4, and I am getting an annoying sound out of the rear of the truck somewhere. It is most noticable at slow speeds when going over large cracks in roads, and dips. It sounds like a metallic on metallic sound, but upon inspection underneath, cannot find anything that seems like it would hit. If any of you have had the same problem, I would appreciate any help before I take it somewhere to have it looked at. Thanks

Jason

All I had to do was take the beer cans out of the bed.
Seriously check the exhaust system and the brake cables(drums).

Do you have a hitch on this truck? Could be the receiver bouncing up and down making the noise. If you have one on, grease up the receiver and the noise should go away. If that is where it is coming from that is.

Welcome to the forum.

could the leaf spring pads have fallen out? There are a couple of round pads between the ends of the shorter leafs.

Thanks for the suggestions guys....gives me a place to start at least. LxMan, are the pads (if gone) replaceable? Or will any piece of rubber work?

just for craps and gigles you may want to check your rear differential fluid to ensure it did not leak out. Make sure you spare tire is tight if it didn't fall off yet.
