AC Compressor kicks in to often, Gurgling sounds

So, with regards to my previous post https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=418547
and trying to find whatever was causing my sound. Iv done some digging.

Sitting in trafic, with the break depreased just enough so I would not move forward, sudenly the RPM's increase slightly and I lurch forward, this happend the same time the sound of gurgling happens. I then thought the AC was kicking in. When I got home, I checked, and sure enough, thats exactly what was happening.

When I have the climate setting in heater, the AC compressor kicks in, what I find odd is.. it kicks in for about 1.5 seconds, off for 6 seconds, then back on for 1.5 seconds, (aprox) and repeats.... i dont understand why it would kick in for such a short time, and how this would cause gurgling inside, almost as if a buble in a water line, but the AC is compressed gass, is it not?

Somone enlighten me!

I am not the greatest with AC,s but you need to check the freon level it may be low. a safety device kicks it off before it does damage to the system. really do need to have it looked at.

like lance says, it usually happens when your low on freon. Plug in your pressure gauge and check how much does it have. If it does not have enough you can get a kit from your local autoparts for low cost now in days. let us know what happened.

Stopped by the Ford dealership on my way home, they wanted $120+ to recharge the system, and brought up a good point, Freon just dosnt disapear, so I could be searching for a leak. If I recal, you cant purchase Freon in Canada unless you have a ticket, or whatever. I know a few guys at work that should be able to help me out who work in the industry. Im going to see if I can get it topped off soon befor I blow the clutch, I will keep everyone posted.

They also sell a leak dector kit that will add a color to the system and where the leak is it will turn that color. wierd that you can't buy R134 in Canada. sneak over here and get some then back up.

Mine does same thing. Mechanic friend of mine said that the gurgling noise was the heater core, but the ac kicking on/off was probably due to low freon. Also, when the ac is on the motor idles higher due to the extra load that it puts on it(thus the surge forward). I unplugged the compressor for now, since it is getting cold(no need for ac).

66 Blackfeet, remember the ac works with heat to give you drier air which defrost alot better and less fogging. But the heat will work just fine with out it as well.

FWIW, there's no FREON in these trucks.

They use R-134a, which is NOT FREON.

on some cars dont they have the ac compressor pump come on some times when the heats on (winter) to keep everything "lubbed" and in working order?

Most Fords run the compressor for every climate control setting but OFF, VENT, and sometimes HEAT.

Check your owner's manual, it's described there.

Mine's doing the same thing, off and on, gurgling, and slight idle change. Zoltrix, what was the final outcome? Did a freon fill up do the trick?

I bought the recharge kit with gage. Added 2 cans of 134a and compressor cycles like normal now.

I have seen this on a few motors, idle would fluctuate while at the same time the a/c compressor would cycle on and off. I too though low on R-134a but it turned out to be a sticking throttle valve which is eletronically controlled. Removed the intake and cleaned the throttle valve and the problem when away.
This is quick enough to do that if its not the problem you have'nt wasted too much time.
