Engine Additives

Engine Additives
I have a 97 4x4 4.6 w/ 186k miles.
My engine has 0 leaks but it burns 2-3 quarts of oil imbetween oil changes. It only smokes on a rare occasion, I drive it pretty hard and never see any smoke behind it. The majortiy of the time when I see it smoke is on start up.
I use Lucas Fuel System Treatment and The truck seems to run better and a little bit smoother. It never runs ruff... just as smoothe as my dads 04 5.4 but It just seems a little bit better w/ the fuel treatment in it, probably all in my head...
I was woundering if ya'll have any suggestions on a similar product for the oil?

Do a search on here on the other forums for oil additives! I bet you will find that they are JUNK and may do more harm than good. I have also used the Lucas fuel treatment and thought it worked well. Although there was a post on here some time ago about oil additives and Lucas was one of them...that were tested and the results were not good. Your oil is made for the best protection possible and is not recommended to use additives. I would just stick with a good quality oil that is specified for your truck. I was once as well stuck on the Lucas Oil Add. hype...used it one oil change...saw that forum on here, and never touched it again!!!

changing to 20w50 is a bad idea in the modular engines. also just because 20w50 is thicker does not mean it has a better flashpoint. so using a thicker oil is not always a good idea. use the proper oil that says ford 929a on it or 930a.
