Post Winter Weather/ Freezing Weather Advisory

It is getting that time of the year again folks... Yep, old man winter has tried to creep up on us yet again.

Here's some general tips for beating the big freeze:

- Be sure to carry 1-2 blankets, tire plugging kit, 2-3 cans of De-Icer and a set of Charging Cables for emergency use.

-Buy a cheap Antifreeze Coolant Tester ($1.00-5.00) and make sure your engine coolant is safe for sub freezing temperatures (0°C/ 32°F)

-If you become stuck and must run your engine for any length of time until help arrives, makes sure to crack 2 windows about 1" to vent fresh air in. Carbon Monoxide can build up and seep into the cabin of the vehicle and due its' worst on you. It is nothing to play with.

-Always make sure to keep your fuel tank as close to Full as possible and if possible, carry a 2-5 gallon gasoline can with extra fuel. You simply never know.

-For those of you with pets outside, make sure to keep extra fresh water available during daylight hours, as most animals will drink more at those times. Also, with the dark, water freezes with dropping temps.

-Keep a bag of cat litter or 2 in the trunk in case of getting stuck, as it can aid in traction. A small folding shovel is also highly recommnded.

--Take your car to a local Auto Parts store and have your battery and Alternator tested. Nothing makes a day worse than a dead battery. Most places perform this service for Free.
