Unhappy Squeaking Blower on EATC

Occasionally, when I start my 2002 F150 Lariat King Ranch with EATC, the AC fan will squeak. This is very intermittent but very annoying. Does anyone here know what is causing this and how to fix it? Is it going to get worse if not tended to?

Will probably get worse. Replace the motor.

I oiled the original motor in my '84 Truck. It quieted down instantly. Got another 5 years out of it.

I think the newer trucks have a different style motor from what my truck had.

Yeah, that's the classic sign of a worn out blower. Oiling doesn't usually stop it for long; I'm surprised to see "5 more years". It's hard enough to get in there, that you probably should just go ahead and replace it.

I have always been a cheap "thrifty" kind a guy. 5 years is right.

Hey, I'm not doubting you...just haven't been successful that way myself. Although I must admit that the last time I tried it was probably 20 years ago. My Dad said it wouldn't last and it didn't, so now I always replace 'em when they begin to squeak. They seem harder and harder to get at, and I'm reluctant to chance doing that again in a couple months.

Thats why Im glad to have these older trucks. Modern, but still not a bitch to service. The original style motor, oiled every year or so, lasted 17 years for me on my '84 with just a heater. My 'new' '83 has A/C with a replacement motor on it. When I got it, I pulled it all apart and cleaned the fan and evaporator. GUYS, if you have not done this on your 80-86 trucks, you might be surprised what you can find in there. Mine was full of ground up leaves. Sucked them out with a vacuum cleaner, and a crevice tool. The heater really BLOWS now, not to mention incredible air conditioning all this past summer.

Anyway, I oiled the motor bearing inside thru the vent tube opening with a Zoom-Spout oiler. I took the fan off to get to the other one. Motor instantly ran better, quieter, and a bit faster. It should last, the brushes are long, and the armature commutator is not burned. I'll replace it if it dies alltogether with an original style again.

Squeaking blower on EATC

Hey guys, I appreciate the replies to my thread but, this is a very infrequent occurence. I very rarely have the blower fan off using the EATC as it is designed to be used like a programmable thermostat in your home. Keeping this in mind, there is no noise 98% of the time. The blower has not slowed down and has good output. Does this make a difference in your advice?

Its 3 years old. You could always give the bearings a good shot of oil, if you want to.

Well, if it didn't bother me 98% of the time, I'd probably be working on other things that do. At least until it bothered me about half of the time!

Well, that is just it! This intermittent annoying little problem is about the only thing that bothers me about this truck. It is my first ever F150 and I LOVE IT! I get 15-16 MPG around town, driving conservatively and the best of 18 on the road. Current mileage is 45k. The only thing that I don't like about this truck is the gas mileage compared to my first truck.

My first truck was a `92 Ranger XLT, 3.0L 5 spd. that I bought new, off the lot. It got 18 MPG around town, best of 37 on a road trip but, I had a heavier foot back then.

Had a lot of problems with this truck. At 2k miles, complained to the dealer about a cold stumble issue. The dealer had the truck for 30 days, tried everything, FMC sent a new engine to the dealer. The new engine did not fix the problem.

Glad I bought the extended warranty on that one! It took the complete warranty period for the dealer to finally replace everthing in the AC system to finally get the AC working right.

Two grenaded transmissions, rebuilt the driver's bucket seat frame twice for broken welds and then at 125k miles, the right front suspension collapsed. AC condensate drain rusted out the upper spring pearch . Of course, the dealer wouldn't do anything about it. They wanted to replace the frame!

Did a lot of soul searching over this and almost defected to some other brand. Finally came to my senses and bought my current ride. Fixed the suspension, replaced the exhaust system. Sold it for $3500 when it was 10 years old to my son's friend. He's still drivng it although, I heard just the other day that the brakes went out on the truck now.
